New customs duty from July 1, 2026
Published 1 augusti 2026
Effective July 1, 2026, a new customs duty of 3 euros (approximately 33–35 SEK) per item applies to all online purchases from countries outside the EU with a value of 150 euros or less. The previous duty exemption for low-value shipments has been removed, primarily impacting cheap e-commerce parcels from countries like China and the USA. What the new rules mean
- Duty on all parcels: You pay a flat customs duty of 3 euros per item category in packages under 150 euros, regardless of how cheap the item is.
- VAT still applies: Regular Swedish VAT is also paid as before on shipments from countries outside the EU.
- Temporary rule: The flat-rate duty of 3 euros applies provisionally until July 1, 2028, pending the completion of the EU's joint customs data center.
- Impacts low-cost giants: The change makes cheap products from retailers like Temu and Shein more expensive and has led to a sharp decline in parcel volumes.
